Skeletal Muscle - Cross Section

Each skeletal muscle fiber is surrounded connective tissue which is called the endomysium. The endomysium is made up of areolar connective tissue which allows for extra cellular fluid to be able to pass around the muscle. The endomysium also allows for capillaries and neurons to come in contact with individual cells. The fibers (plus endomysium) are bundled into units called fascicles. The fascicles are together by the perimysium of the muscle fiber. This allows for small blood vessels called capillaries to pass through the muscle as well as for neurons to pass. The perimysium and fascicles are surrounded by epimysium which is made up of dense irregular connective tissue. The epimysium in essence holds the muscle together and protects it from friction from neighboring muscles and bones.

Slides on this page were made by students between the spring of 2018 and the fall of 2019. Go through the diffrent student pictures and compare them to your lab book picture. Then slect one to draw on paper. Be sure to lable it as it is labeled in the lab book.
