Human Anatomy Histology

Flagella Histology

Flagella are long cellular projections that provide motility of cells. Unlike cilia, which are short and numerus, human flagellas are single long projections that extend in 1 direction.

On this page are photos of human sperm cells that I took with the microscope camera from our slide collection in either 2024 or 2009. Sperm cells have a head, that is really just a nucleus and a structure called an acrosome that has digestive enzymes, a midpeice, that contains mitochondria, and a single long flagella. And before you ask, we got the slide from Wards Scientific and I do not want to know where they got the sperm from.
